Tonight at 6pm, I will be part of a line-up of poets
reading at the Cornelia Street Café on Cornelia Street near Bleeker Street in
the Village. Eight bucks includes a
drink. The line-up includes Jane Ormerod,
Cynthia Toronto, George Wallace, Frank Simone, Robert Gibbons, and others with whom
I feel good about sharing a stage. It
probably wraps up about 8pm. The place
serves good food, so consider making it a dinner out with poetry.
I have been writing
prose and poetry much longer than doing comedy.
My beginnings on stage (not counting school plays) were at poetry open
mic’s. Poetry doesn’t have the same
pressures as comedy. Poetry certainly
doesn’t have to be funny though mine sometimes is. This is one I don’t read anymore.

Like comedy, one
performs/presents alone on stage and with one’s own writing. Each have had me
trembling when I first got started.
December is such a
huge month. Lots of paperwork awaits me as both my jobs conclude for the school
cycle. Lots of birthdays and holidays and possibly the end of the world right
on my birthday, 12/21.
But before the
possible last day on Earth, I have a couple of comedy shows coming up. If the
mood hits, I would love for you to come to the Grisly Pear (107 MacDougal
Street in the Village) on Thursday, December 13th at 8pm. There’s NO
cover and NO drink minimum. Part of the show is a contest. You vote for your
two favorites. The winner gets a bit of cash and a couple of bookings. I could
really use the support.
On
12/20, possibly the final hurrah, I will be performing at Goodbye Blue Monday
in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Figured I should go out in laughter.
