  1. Cannabis Parade 2017

I went to the Cannabis Parade in May.

My buddy Judy and I went together which made it more enjoyable.  Plus she takes good pictures.

               Check out the suit.

    Check out the socks.

The largest “joint” I’ve ever seen.

The issues affect so many people, even beyond those who partake in the pleasures of cannabis.  There are people lingering in jail for what is now at least decriminalized in many places.  Their families are without them.  People of many walks of life come together.

We were invited by cannabis activist Paul Gilman.  (You can contact him on Facebook if you want info about next year's march.)  After the rally at Union Square Park, we went to a friend of Paul’s apartment to relax before an after-party.  I really was glad to get to know his friend Svetlana.  Quite a cool and intelligent woman.

It was my 2nd time going to this event, first time with Judy.  It’s always an adventure.  Judy and I got something we wanted out of the experience… to be able to sit in a park downtown and smoke a fuckin’ joint in peace like it used to be in the 70s and 80s.

Hope you are having a safe 4th of July.  I’m staying in.

I have a "sport" jacket with buttons that revealed, on inspection some time later -- long after I had begun to sport it -- cannabis leaves embossed so subtly you would have thought they pertained to some yacht club. If they did, to be sure it was one habituated to sport on the high seas.

Too many low income & people of color jacked up (frequently from stop & frisk) on small amounts while "others" are now establishing businesses based on this plant. Sidebar: where to find edibles?

    3. Thanks for the comments, Jack and Rhonda. Rhonda, it still goes on in NYC like it hasn't been decriminalized. Awful.

Thank you Mindy for attending The 2017 Cannabis Parade and Rally and for this cool photo essay. It was good time for all. Lots of public pot smoking with no arrests. Compare this to alcohol events, Mardi Gras, New Years, St Patrick's, Spring Break, and for me, pot events are better. I had a great time with Mindy and her friend (who may not want to be identified as a pot smoker...) and Svetlana. I have been working on these events since about 1989. The annual first Saturday in May Pot Parade and Rally is my version of Christmas. I call it "Reefermas". Volunteer for next years Pot Parade and Rally - https://cannabisparade.org/ - Pot Activism is fun! Thanks Minday!

    5. You are very welcome, Paul. "Minday" is what happened in high school. In my high school yearbook, they were so intent on getting my last name right (which they did) but then wrote "Minday" for my first name. LOL
