  1. 2 Shows and an Unexpected Loss

    Friday, August 15, 2025

Okay, I know some of you New Yorkers find Manhattan most convenient, so consider coming to a comedy show I’m in at Pangea, 178 Second Avenue near 11th Street, on Saturday, August 23rd at 9pm.  It is Paul Hallasy’s Eat Drink Laugh show, and it’s always a good show.  Advance tickets available here:  https://cur8.com/23871/project/133180

At this point, I feel the need to acknowledge a person who was a comedy friend, a loyal reader of my updates, a vivacious person, and a very funny comic with whom I shared a stage many times – Lisa Harmon.  Most unfortunately, she recently passed away in an accident.  It hasn’t truly felt real to me, but I anticipate it will at the show on 8/23.  Pangea is one of the places where she and I performed in the same show several times.

On September 12th, the Almost Fall Comedy Show at The Artist, 249 City Island Avenue will be featuring TJ Meyers, Linda San Lucas, Mike Hernandez Vacas, and me.  $15 cover and NO minimum.  You may even BYOB.  Laughter absolutely guaranteed.  I book this show, and I have great taste.

Spend the day, enjoy the island, the restaurants, the shops, and then come to The Artist for dessert and hilarious comedy.

After three years, my building has gas for cooking again!  It feels a bit luxurious.

May is a difficult month for me.  Fortunately my good friend Judy sent me a link to a free on-line session addressing grief.  Though it was only an hour, it was significant.

June provides comedy.  Comic Linda Marcus Smith will be interviewing me.  She has interviewed many, many, many comics, and now I’ll be one of them.  Yay.  Then on Thu., June 12th, 8:30pm, I’ll be in Randy Epley’s Comedy Dungeon show at the Kama Central Park Hostel.  On Saturday, June 14th at 9pm, I’ll be part of Paul Hallasy’s Eat Drink Laugh show at Pangea.

And on June 20th, 8pm, is my Almost Summer comedy show at The Artist on City Island.  This show will be featuring Debbie Bazza, Rob Sajous, Paul Hallasy, and me of course.

    Laughter guaranteed!

  4. Was in Lockdown; Now on Stage

    Thursday, April 3, 2025

I’ve been in my own lock-down of sorts.  No cable, no internet, no landline.  Couldn’t see or answer emails or look on-line for gigs.  Couldn’t attend the poetry workshops I’m part of on Zoom.  Couldn’t post blogs.  No virtual auditions.  No television.  I realized how one could actually go crazy in solitary.  I was able to get incoming calls, thankfully.  Of course I can go outside; I’m not in jail.  But compared to having access to everything, it felt like just a taste of lock-down (without the hostile cellmates or spouses).

Then my buddy/brother-by-choice came to my rescue with an antenna that allowed me to get some television air channels.  Though I couldn’t see Wheel of Fortune (which is my favorite game show), it was a big relief to get any channels.  I hadn’t realized how dependent I am on TV.  Without it, I am at the mercy of my thoughts which I have to sometimes battle.

I then decided I’m going to get rid of cable, so my bill should be significantly less if I only have internet and landline.  I have to get my finances in better shape because right now I’ve been sinking.  My landlord (who has been patient with me) sold the building.  Now I have to get it right (paying rent at the beginning of the month).  Geez.  The new property manager called me and left a message about my March rent being late.  Lordy Lordy.  I returned her call and was relieved to get her voicemail.  I left a polite message including an apology.

I could have used this time productively, but I rarely did.  Sometimes, I made myself declutter (Goddess knows I need to).  I found things, including poems I had written, that I hadn’t seen in quite a while.  I also filled two bags with clutter to get rid of.  Those moments felt victorious.  But much of the time felt like I was just so cut off from so much.

After falling behind on bills, it snowballed.  And it got harder and harder to get back on track.  I have spent the majority of my life living on the edge financially.  As long as I managed to scrape by, I didn’t let it bring me down.  I’ve lived through way worse than financial problems.  But now, it felt like I could lose my apartment.  I’ve lived here since I was 21 years old.  I cannot afford to live anywhere else in my city.  One room in someone’s house would cost more than my rent for this apartment.  I am entitled to more benefits than I have applied for, so I have to get on the ball.

Another long-time good friend/angel on Earth came to my rescue with a loan of a month’s rent.  She has always been an amazing human being.  Many Pre-K kids in Brooklyn were lucky to have her for their first teacher.

When I finally get my internet back, I’m going to have hundreds or thousands of emails to get through.  I look forward to seeing what I’ve been missing.

Now, for good news, I am in Paul Hallasy’s Eat Drink Laugh show on Saturday, April 5th at 9pm at Pangea,  178 Second Avenue between 11th and 12th Streets, NYC.  $10 cover in advance; $15 cover at the door.  $20 minimum food/drink.  Food is excellent.  Laughter guaranteed!  I say this is a great event for a date   nothing better than eating, drinking, laughing, noticing what makes the other laugh (you learn a lot from that), and taking it from there.

UPDATE:  I'm back and got rid of 723 emails!

Hope to see you and hear you laughing on Saturday night.  It's always a good show.

  5. Let's Get Warm Together

    Tuesday, January 21, 2025

Whew!  I just submitted my grant application for a grant from the Bronx Council on the Arts.  I got it in with 4 ½ hours to spare.  I make myself crazy with deadlines.  Announcements will be in March.  Fingers crossed.  I need the money so badly.  I entered the poetry category.  My confidence fluctuates.  There are moments I believe it is grant-worthy, and then there are moments I hope the judges will appreciate my style.  The hopeful part is there can be more than one winner in a category.  So if they find several to be grant-worthy, there can be several winners.  It depends.  If no one wins for dance or sculpture, etc., that money can be used for multiple winners in another category.

The Bronx Council on the Arts has been so enriching and encouraging over the years.  I’ve attended many of their workshops and classes which are free to us.  For me, it offers what I can’t otherwise afford.  And it’s high quality.

Now, let’s warm up together with laughter this Friday!  9pm at Pangea, 178 Second Avenue near 12th Street, NYC.  Only $15 cover; if you buy your ticket in advance, it’s only $10.  Advance tickets here:  https://cur8.com/23871/project/128512  There is a minimum of $20 food/drink; the food is excellent.  Here’s the line-up:

  6.

Well today is Christmas and the first night of Hanukkah.  Hanukkah will conclude in January.  I don’t remember that ever happening before, but I’m sure it must have.  Have a good everything.

The night before the winter solstice and my birthday was the show at The Artist on City Island.  The weather reports were threatening a snowstorm.  Here in the Bronx, nothing stuck, it was not at all a storm, and we just had wet ground.  However, the comics were coming from Staten Island, Long Island, and Brooklyn.  So for a few hours, I was not sure one of them was going to brave it.  I don’t drive at all, so when a driver feels hesitant about driving in challenging weather, I get it.

It all worked out.  Then there was the mystery of how many audience members will show up.  The weather reports were not on our side.  Still, more people came than I thought.  And it was a good show.

Elliot Glick introducing the show and welcoming the audience warmly.  He's one of my favorite people.

                Me enjoying a comic.

Helaine showing us how she was coached to pose.

Half of us looking like the Rockettes.

My bestie’s girlfriend suggested they take me out to dinner the next day on my birthday.  We went to Neem, an Indian restaurant in Riverdale (in the Bronx, N.Y.).  It was so relaxing, no rushing, no having to get anywhere else.  We ate and talked and drank (well I drank).  It was very nice and generous of them.  It gave me something to look forward to.  I was grateful.

If you are into starting 2025 with poetry, you might want to attend some of this extravaganza which runs from 2-10pm at 55 Bethune Street in the community room.  It is FREE.  Each reader reads for 3 minutes, so if you don’t like someone, it will end soon.  There is an open mic list included if you want your 3 minutes.  The open mic-ers are usually sprinkled throughout the day.

The local news breaks my heart – people losing their lives over stupid shit.  Their families devastated at holiday time.  Horrible.  Then a dictator coming into office in January.  God/dess help us all.

Let’s embrace laughter to help us get through.  The Eat Drink Laugh show at Pangea (NYC) on January 24th at 9pm will lift your spirits.

Loads of love to CGG-M    ❤❤❤

I did my early voting this evening.  The site was closer to me than my regular voting site, there were no long lines, and everyone working at the site had a beautiful attitude.  Plus a very nice looking man working there gave me a big smile as I was leaving.  So it was an uplifting experience.

And since I prefer a president who cares about us and has never been accused of rape, I’m in this final fundraiser on Saturday night.  All ticket sales ($10 in advance; $15 at the door) will be donated to Act Blue for Kamala Harris’ campaign.

A stand-up comedy benefit for Kamala Harris. Scheduled to perform: Jose Angel Diaz, Allen Enlow, Dana Friedman, Bob Greenberg, Paul Hallasy, Lisa Harmon, Susan Jeremy, Allan Landis, Mindy Matijasevic, Rob Sajous, Michelle Schwartzman and Gladys Simon.
$10 cover in advance, $15 cash cover at the door. In addition, there is a $20 per person minimum (food or beverage, credit cards accepted).
Doors open at 8:45pm and seating is first come first served. Please arrive early!
Buying tickets online is the only way to guarantee a seat. ADVANCE TICKETS ON SALE HERE: https://cur8.com/23871/project/126690
ALL COVER CHARGES WILL BE DONATED TO ACT BLUE FOR KAMALA HARRIS.

It’s an opportunity to donate, eat, drink, and laugh all at once.  Please vote, then pray, meditate, or whatever you do.

And if there is an island of garbage floating nearby, it’s probably from thousands of someone’s Big Mac Combo Meal litter.  I’d bet my rent money that he doesn’t recycle.  That would involve a conscience and caring.

One candidate’s spouse doesn’t even want anything to do with their shit anymore.  Not naming names, so if the shoe doesn’t fit, don’t squeeze your foot in it.

For the very first time in my life, I cared about the World Series.  GO YANKEES!!!  I’m happy for them, their fans, and The Bronx.   Coming up from under – that always thrills me.  It’s in sync with the Bronx spirit.

Have a safe and fun Halloween.  🎃
