Well today is Christmas and the first night of Hanukkah.  Hanukkah will conclude in January.  I don’t remember that ever happening before, but I’m sure it must have.  Have a good everything.

The night before the winter solstice and my birthday was the show at The Artist on City Island.  The weather reports were threatening a snowstorm.  Here in the Bronx, nothing stuck, it was not at all a storm, and we just had wet ground.  However, the comics were coming from Staten Island, Long Island, and Brooklyn.  So for a few hours, I was not sure one of them was going to brave it.  I don’t drive at all, so when a driver feels hesitant about driving in challenging weather, I get it.

It all worked out.  Then there was the mystery of how many audience members will show up.  The weather reports were not on our side.  Still, more people came than I thought.  And it was a good show.

Elliot Glick introducing the show and welcoming the audience warmly.  He's one of my favorite people.

                Me enjoying a comic.

Helaine showing us how she was coached to pose.

Half of us looking like the Rockettes.

My bestie’s girlfriend suggested they take me out to dinner the next day on my birthday.  We went to Neem, an Indian restaurant in Riverdale (in the Bronx, N.Y.).  It was so relaxing, no rushing, no having to get anywhere else.  We ate and talked and drank (well I drank).  It was very nice and generous of them.  It gave me something to look forward to.  I was grateful.

If you are into starting 2025 with poetry, you might want to attend some of this extravaganza which runs from 2-10pm at 55 Bethune Street in the community room.  It is FREE.  Each reader reads for 3 minutes, so if you don’t like someone, it will end soon.  There is an open mic list included if you want your 3 minutes.  The open mic-ers are usually sprinkled throughout the day.

The local news breaks my heart – people losing their lives over stupid shit.  Their families devastated at holiday time.  Horrible.  Then a dictator coming into office in January.  God/dess help us all.

Let’s embrace laughter to help us get through.  The Eat Drink Laugh show at Pangea (NYC) on January 24th at 9pm will lift your spirits.

Loads of love to CGG-M    ❤❤❤

  2. Fun Stuff & Creepy Stuff

    Saturday, December 7, 2024

Hi everyone!  A haiku of mine on the theme of winter is published here:

I'm in here towards the end

Another poem of mine has been requested to another publication.  That part of my life is going well.

My show, The Almost-Winter Comedy Show, at The Artist, 249 City Island Avenue, is on 12/20/2024 at 8pm.  Only $15 cover, no minimum, and a hat gets passed around for contributions so I may pay the comics.  There is a vegetarian-friendly menu and delicious desserts to tempt you, but it is not required.  You may even BYOB.  Glasses, ice, and a corkscrew will be provided.  It is a family-run place and very welcoming.

The desserts are provided by Jenny's Sweets and they are SPECTACULAR!

        The line-up:

    Helaine Witt

    Jose Angel Diaz

    Shelly Colman

    and me!

This show is my birthday eve, and I hope you want to attend.  I’d love to see you there and hear your laughter.

I hope everyone had a decent or better Thanksgiving.  Mine started out sort of depressing, but I was expected at a dinner in the evening at my best friend’s house.  It was a vegetarian dinner, delicious, and with great company.  So much sharing, wine, weed, and laughter.  I am so grateful.

However, the next evening, someone was ringing my doorbell.  I was not expecting anyone, so I almost didn’t go to the door.  Then I thought maybe it was a package I wasn’t expecting.  I went to the door, looked through the peephole, and it wasn’t anyone in a FedEx or UPS uniform.  I asked, “Who’s there?”  The young (maybe early 20s) man had long hair, maybe in dreadlocks, braids, or twists, and didn’t look at my door, so I only got a profile view.  It seemed he was reading off his phone.  He said that he lost his I-Phone around here and wondered if I had seen it or heard about it.  I told him, “No,” and I added, “Good luck.”  If he thought I would open my door, he got the wrong girl.  I was born and raised here in the Bronx.

What I didn’t hear was most significant.  He didn’t ring anyone else’s doorbells.  So this was specific.  I wondered if someone was watching me, or if someone hired someone to do something.  I don’t generally make enemies, but as far as I know, there are some people who think they would like me to be dead.  I was never cruel to them.  Both are connected to a man I chose to not be with.  Draw your own conclusion.  Then there are people in the neighborhood who might feel rejected by me simply because I don’t respond favorably to disrespectful men.  Whatever that person at my door was about, it could’ve been a very Un-Thanksgiving Day After.  Life isn’t boring.  That’s for sure.

This year, Hanukkah and Christmas begin on the same day.  Amazing.  And for the first time in my memory, Hanukkah will conclude in January.

Come to my show on 12/20!

    Love always to CGG-M  ❤💕❤

  3. One Producer's Reflections

    Sunday, September 29, 2024

My Almost Fall Comedy Show at The Artist on City Island was a different kind of night.  For the first time in a few years, my buddy was not going to be in NYC on the night of the show and couldn’t drive me.  I had to take 3 buses.  The weather was nice, and I knew it was do-able.  I’ve done it before.  The first bus was right there when I needed it.  The second bus was not much of a wait.  But the third bus was the problem.  The good part was I saw one of my comics, Shelly Colman, at the bus stop.  So we waited together and complained to each other.  Though the bus stop was populated with humans, a rat kept running out there to drink liquid from the gutter.  I was fucking freaking.

Shelly used her smart phone to get the number of The Artist and connected me, so I was able to let them know why we were late.  I was assured they would tell everybody.  That eased some of my anxiety.

The BX29 bus came a half hour after it was scheduled.  Shelly and I ended up sitting behind a loud man who was on his phone and seemed to be unaware that he was on a bus.  That was a comedy show in itself.

With presidential campaigning going on, I probably shouldn’t have referenced Trump.  Another comic probably shouldn’t have put down Harris.  He felt it as a Kamala room; I felt it as a Trump-y room.  This time, it was certainly a challenging room.  Another friend of mine suggested that I may have been off, in a way, due to being late and that the audience might have picked up on that.  There are many factors, I suppose, some below the surface and harder to see.

Flash Rosenberg treated us to a different kind of performance.  Her set was thought-provoking, clever, humorous, and difficult to categorize.  She embraced the opportunity to be on stage again doing her thing, after a long time.  I was happy to experience her.  Flash also brought a good quality camera and gave us nice photos and videos.  She made my trip home delightful.  A smooth Lyft ride as opposed to 3 buses, the final one being in an unsafe area.  I met Flash through the NYC poetry circles several years ago, and we liked each other early on.  I’ve since learned so much more about her many talents and accomplishments.

TJ Meyers, besides his hilarity, brought many family members and friends which I appreciate so much.  He does some bits that crack me up even if I’ve heard them before.  Shelly traveled from Brooklyn and was her usual hilarious self.  I’ve enjoyed her humor since I first heard her at Lisa Harmon’s comedy open mic, Lisa’s Clubhouse, years ago.

Each performer’s material is so wonderfully different, which is one of the things I love about booking the show.  I equally love watching the show.

My Almost Winter Comedy Show at The Artist will be December 20th at 8pm, and I hope you’ll be there.

The place is run by Elliot Glick and Monica Glick.  I appreciate both of them so much for the human beings they are.  And they welcome the show so whole-heartedly.

My show there has been scheduled seasonally, but that might increase.  Stay tuned.

So much love to CGG-M  ❤❤❤

  5. One Show On, One Show Off

    Monday, July 24, 2023

Well things lightened up, schedule-wise.  This Saturday night, I won’t be leaving one show early and rushing to the next one.  Aaron Smith's show at Comedy in Harlem is postponed.  I’ll update you when there’s a new date.

The show at Bella Notte in the Riverdale section of the Bronx is on, and it looks like it will be a real good one.  The tickets are only ten bucks.  The place serves delicious Italian food, so you might want to come for dinner too.

    Tickets here

I look forward not only to performing, but also to hearing comics I’m not familiar with yet – Rory and Sharon.  I always enjoy Shelly Colman’s performance.

I hope so much you also want to be there.  😊

    Much love to CGG-M  ❤❤❤

  6. Update on Friday 12/9/2022 COMEDY Show!

    Thursday, December 8, 2022

Hello, my dedicated readers!  I want to update you on Friday’s show.

The line-up changed a bit.  Here’s the new flier.

I am so glad about this line-up.  All are very funny.  One was the winner of

the Ladies’ Room Comedy Festival.  I saw another playing a badass defense

attorney on Law and Order.  One was the winner of this year’s Funniest

Jewish Comedian in NYC contest.  Then there’s me, Mindy Matijasevic,

whose comedy – with just a few bleeps – was aired on Fran Luck’s feminist

radio show on WBAI-FM, “Joy of Resistance."

    Laughter guaranteed.

  7. I got a nuisance call (this one actually in English) promising me it was my last alert that my car warranty is soon to expire.  I’m glad I didn’t get up to take the call.  I heard the message as it came in.  I don’t have a car warranty or a car.  I don’t have a driver’s license and I don’t know how to drive.  So I hope they keep their promise.

If you remember, earlier this year I landed a role (Gina Ferrari) in a new series, Mob Mentality.  There will be a red carpet premiere with media in attendance on December 18th from 6 to 10pm.  A ticket entitles you to an open bar, appetizers, the screening of the first two episodes, opportunities to mingle and network.  If this sounds like something you’d like and can afford to attend, here’s the link.

On a more affordable note, I’m having a Winter Comedy Show on Saturday, December 28th.  Arrive at 7:45.  Showtime is 8pm.  The hilarity
will be provided by me, Jillian Thomas, Shelly Colman, and Ken Watter.  Only $10 cover.  No minimum though you’ll likely feel tempted.  It’s at The Artist, formerly the Starving Artist Café.  Jar passed around for much appreciated contributions for the performers.

These are the lovely faces of the funny folks who will entertain you.  Laughter is guaranteed.

Warm up with laughter!  Let’s close out the year with great humor, good cheer, and some yummy desserts.  (And it’s so affordable!)

So much all-the-time love to CGG-M

  8. To the Doctor & Beyond...

    Friday, November 1, 2019

Well, I wish I can say I’m fine, but I’m not.  At least not yet.

I saw the infectious diseases doctor again, and she and I both thought it
was a good idea to give me another round of the killer antibiotics.  Plus she wants me to get a spirometer to exercise my lungs and get them back to capacity.  I like her which says a lot since I don’t like going to doctors generally.  But I needed my best buddy to take me.  When it comes to this stuff, I am like a five-year-old needing her mother.

The legionella bacteria could be coming from my own faucets.  It is hard to know what to avoid because I don’t know where I got it.  I believe the Dept. of Health will be checking.

Proceeding with optimism, I will be in a poetry reading on November 24th
at 2pm at Bowery Poetry Club.  It is the celebration of the Brevitas anthology, full of poems 14 lines or less.  $10 admission for the public includes a complimentary copy of the 2019 anthology.

On Saturday, December 28th at 8pm, warm up at the winter comedy show
at The Artist (formerly the Starving Artist Café) on City Island, which will be featuring:

    Jillian Thomas

          Shelly Colman

    Ken Watter

    (probably without Elmo)

     & me

It is only $10 cover and NO minimum though they do sell light fare and
scrumptious desserts.  Later, a jar or hat is passed around welcoming contributions for the comics.  Laughter absolutely guaranteed!

    Big love to CGG-M
