  1. Comedy Feedback; Comedy Shows

    Tuesday, August 26, 2025

I had such a blast performing in Paul Hallasy’s Eat Drink Laugh show at Pangea on August 23rd.  He’s a great comic and host, and the show is always a good one.  The audiences at Pangea have been so receptive in my experience.

What made this show very special for me is that two women, who I like so much from the poetry circles I’m in, attended the show.  They traveled from Brooklyn together and told me they needed to laugh.  I really wanted to make it worth their while.  They enjoyed the show so much, and I am very happy about that.  Thank you, Sylvia Rivera and Kathryn Fazio.  It meant a lot to me. Also, a very supportive man I know from the poetry circles, Ernest Woodley, surprised me and attended.  I appreciate all the support I get.

    After the show:

The feedback I got from audience members and some other comics makes me think I haven’t been pursuing this enough.  One particular man told me how much I was appreciated by the women and that the men liked me too, but for the women, I showed such courage and provided a different perspective.  He said he liked that I didn’t get vulgar and knew how far to take things.  Believe me, my material is for adults only, but he knew what was and wasn’t vulgar.  Later I learned he is the one who has cast the music for Dancetaria.

Years ago, two female comics suggested I was marginalizing myself.  I was new in comedy but not new in living.  I didn’t get why they didn’t see that in a patriarchy, women are already marginalized.  And those who can see through it and speak on it will definitely be marginalized and even scapegoated as has been done throughout history.  I don’t tend to blindly follow the masses, so I continued with what I had to say on stage.

I have no desire to put down those who society has already put down. It doesn’t feel funny to me.  I do try to humorously shed light on oppressive behavior.  If that marginalizes me, I’m okay with that.

Remember that my Almost Fall Comedy Show at The Artist, 249 City Island Avenue, is on Friday, September 12th at 8pm and will be featuring Mike Hernandez Vacas, TJ Meyers, Linda San Lucas, and me.  Only $15 cover; no minimum.  You may even bring your own bottle.  It’s a cozy, family-run place that I love!  There will be a menu of light fare and delicious desserts that will be tempting but not required.  (A hat gets passed around for contributions, which gets divided up for the comics.)

Link for advance tickets is soon to come.  Whether in advance or at the venue, the admission is $15.  I book this show.  The comics are typically varied in many ways as is the audience.  And the laughter is guaranteed.  I have good taste.

  2. One Producer's Reflections

    Sunday, September 29, 2024

My Almost Fall Comedy Show at The Artist on City Island was a different kind of night.  For the first time in a few years, my buddy was not going to be in NYC on the night of the show and couldn’t drive me.  I had to take 3 buses.  The weather was nice, and I knew it was do-able.  I’ve done it before.  The first bus was right there when I needed it.  The second bus was not much of a wait.  But the third bus was the problem.  The good part was I saw one of my comics, Shelly Colman, at the bus stop.  So we waited together and complained to each other.  Though the bus stop was populated with humans, a rat kept running out there to drink liquid from the gutter.  I was fucking freaking.

Shelly used her smart phone to get the number of The Artist and connected me, so I was able to let them know why we were late.  I was assured they would tell everybody.  That eased some of my anxiety.

The BX29 bus came a half hour after it was scheduled.  Shelly and I ended up sitting behind a loud man who was on his phone and seemed to be unaware that he was on a bus.  That was a comedy show in itself.

With presidential campaigning going on, I probably shouldn’t have referenced Trump.  Another comic probably shouldn’t have put down Harris.  He felt it as a Kamala room; I felt it as a Trump-y room.  This time, it was certainly a challenging room.  Another friend of mine suggested that I may have been off, in a way, due to being late and that the audience might have picked up on that.  There are many factors, I suppose, some below the surface and harder to see.

Flash Rosenberg treated us to a different kind of performance.  Her set was thought-provoking, clever, humorous, and difficult to categorize.  She embraced the opportunity to be on stage again doing her thing, after a long time.  I was happy to experience her.  Flash also brought a good quality camera and gave us nice photos and videos.  She made my trip home delightful.  A smooth Lyft ride as opposed to 3 buses, the final one being in an unsafe area.  I met Flash through the NYC poetry circles several years ago, and we liked each other early on.  I’ve since learned so much more about her many talents and accomplishments.

TJ Meyers, besides his hilarity, brought many family members and friends which I appreciate so much.  He does some bits that crack me up even if I’ve heard them before.  Shelly traveled from Brooklyn and was her usual hilarious self.  I’ve enjoyed her humor since I first heard her at Lisa Harmon’s comedy open mic, Lisa’s Clubhouse, years ago.

Each performer’s material is so wonderfully different, which is one of the things I love about booking the show.  I equally love watching the show.

My Almost Winter Comedy Show at The Artist will be December 20th at 8pm, and I hope you’ll be there.

The place is run by Elliot Glick and Monica Glick.  I appreciate both of them so much for the human beings they are.  And they welcome the show so whole-heartedly.

My show there has been scheduled seasonally, but that might increase.  Stay tuned.

So much love to CGG-M  ❤❤❤

  3. Great Comedy and Emaciated Clowns

    Wednesday, September 6, 2023

I planned to update you, readers, yesterday (since I am the Tuesday “She”), but the day in the heat and on too little sleep exhausted me.  So I’m here on Wednesday with my fan blowing in my direction.

Regarding last blog’s concerns, I am scheduled with a specialist for an intensive interview and a couple of more tests.  Thanks to those of you who expressed concern in emails and private messages.

I want to remind you of the beautiful and funny line-up for this Friday’s comedy show.

You can, if you choose, get tickets in advance here:

Or you can pay at the end of the show at the venue.  Just get your tush there!

Yesterday, I had a new and interesting experience.  I was booked as a make-up model for a class where students learning to be make-up artists work on the model as their assignment for the evening.  I was paired with a lovely person named Bless.  From the initial hello, it felt good.  That makes all the difference to me.  The experience went well.  She showed concern for my comfort.  That makes me want to do my best, so she can do her best.  Her teacher was what I consider a good teacher – supportive, knowledgeable, and helpful, besides enjoying his job.

The experience reminded me of many thinner years ago when I often posed for art classes.  That was harder and paid less.  But it was something where schedules could be flexible.  It served as a second job for me back in my mid-twenties.  Anyway, that whole thing is for another blog another time.

These students were given different assignments and they were given their models.  The teacher made the choices.  We, the models, were to show up wearing black clothing, no make-up, and nothing scented.

When I entered the classroom, the teacher said, “Clown.”  I and the rest of the class laughed.  The student with the clown assignment told me where to sit.  While my face was a canvas, people walked by and seemed very amused.  I couldn’t wait to see what I looked like.  When the work time was over, each model was seated on a director’s chair and the class observed while the teacher gave feedback to each student make-up artist.

Bless got a raving review.  That felt good.  But that is when I learned that ‘clown’ was only part of the assignment.  She was to make me look like an emaciated clown.  Since I am now overweight, it made me laugh.  However, it also made me understand why I looked like such an ugly clown.  That was the assignment, and she aced it.

Come to the Almost Fall Comedy Show and make this clown smile.

    Great Comedy Show!
