  1. Good News and Some Laughs

    Thursday, April 17, 2025

A nice bit of news – a poem of mine appears in this beautiful publication.  If poetry is not your thing, mine is five short lines so it should be bearable.  J  It’s the first poem in this issue.  Enjoy.

    First Literary Review East

Thank you Cindy Hochman and Karen Neuberg!  Also for the bonus of letting me know on New Year’s Eve that my poem was accepted.  What a nice ending to 2024.

For those of you who like to plan ahead, mark June 20th 8pm on your calendars for my comedy show on City Island.  For those of you intrigued by a trip to City Island, but wanted to go in the warm weather, mark your calendars for June 20th 8pm at The Artist, 249 City Island Avenue.  If you enjoy laughing, mark your calendar for June 20th 8pm.

Thanks to Cicely Brooks, here's a 1-minute snippet for your funny bone:

  2. Fun Stuff & Creepy Stuff

    Saturday, December 7, 2024

Hi everyone!  A haiku of mine on the theme of winter is published here:

I'm in here towards the end

Another poem of mine has been requested to another publication.  That part of my life is going well.

My show, The Almost-Winter Comedy Show, at The Artist, 249 City Island Avenue, is on 12/20/2024 at 8pm.  Only $15 cover, no minimum, and a hat gets passed around for contributions so I may pay the comics.  There is a vegetarian-friendly menu and delicious desserts to tempt you, but it is not required.  You may even BYOB.  Glasses, ice, and a corkscrew will be provided.  It is a family-run place and very welcoming.

The desserts are provided by Jenny's Sweets and they are SPECTACULAR!

        The line-up:

    Helaine Witt

    Jose Angel Diaz

    Shelly Colman

    and me!

This show is my birthday eve, and I hope you want to attend.  I’d love to see you there and hear your laughter.

I hope everyone had a decent or better Thanksgiving.  Mine started out sort of depressing, but I was expected at a dinner in the evening at my best friend’s house.  It was a vegetarian dinner, delicious, and with great company.  So much sharing, wine, weed, and laughter.  I am so grateful.

However, the next evening, someone was ringing my doorbell.  I was not expecting anyone, so I almost didn’t go to the door.  Then I thought maybe it was a package I wasn’t expecting.  I went to the door, looked through the peephole, and it wasn’t anyone in a FedEx or UPS uniform.  I asked, “Who’s there?”  The young (maybe early 20s) man had long hair, maybe in dreadlocks, braids, or twists, and didn’t look at my door, so I only got a profile view.  It seemed he was reading off his phone.  He said that he lost his I-Phone around here and wondered if I had seen it or heard about it.  I told him, “No,” and I added, “Good luck.”  If he thought I would open my door, he got the wrong girl.  I was born and raised here in the Bronx.

What I didn’t hear was most significant.  He didn’t ring anyone else’s doorbells.  So this was specific.  I wondered if someone was watching me, or if someone hired someone to do something.  I don’t generally make enemies, but as far as I know, there are some people who think they would like me to be dead.  I was never cruel to them.  Both are connected to a man I chose to not be with.  Draw your own conclusion.  Then there are people in the neighborhood who might feel rejected by me simply because I don’t respond favorably to disrespectful men.  Whatever that person at my door was about, it could’ve been a very Un-Thanksgiving Day After.  Life isn’t boring.  That’s for sure.

This year, Hanukkah and Christmas begin on the same day.  Amazing.  And for the first time in my memory, Hanukkah will conclude in January.

Come to my show on 12/20!

    Love always to CGG-M  ❤💕❤

  3. Love, Laughter, & Poetry

    Thursday, October 17, 2024

Glad to say I’ve had several affection sessions recently with my feline girlfriend, Mustache.  When it’s been a few days without a visit, I miss her.  I miss pure, four-legged, furry love.  So when we see each other, it’s intense.  She’s talking up a storm (in cat talk), and I tell her, “I know.  I missed you too.  I come here and wonder where’s Mustache?  The worker who doesn’t like me probably feels nauseous when he hears us.  LOL  The owner and son of the owner appreciate my loving relationship with Mustache, so the negative guy can go … be with himself.

When I performed in Paul Hallasy’s fundraiser for Kamala comedy show at Pangea last month, I was so fortunate that more people, who I invited, attended than I expected, and one of them, Cicely Brooks, shared a bit of video she took.  Here it is:

Between several poetry pals and the Bronx Council on the Arts, my evenings have been enriched with zoom workshops and classes (memoir and poetry).  And it is thanks to friends that I have a mic and camera which allows me to participate.  It is so uplifting to my spirit.

    Upcoming events:

Saturday, Oct. 26th at 7pm – Dance of the Word – produced by Evie Ivy.  There will be poetry, music, belly dancing, wine, light fare.  353 Studios, Studio 1, 353 W. 48thSt., 2nd fl. A train to 42nd St., 44th St. exit, or E to 50th St. Join us for a fun evening. $15 at the door. Refreshments, wine and cheese, etc. I'll be sharing poetry.

Sunday, Oct. 27th at 1pm – Artemis – produced by Diana Gitesha Hernandez. Reading series at One + One, Nexus Lounge, 76 1st Street (off 1st Avenue), NYC.  I’ll be one of the features sharing poetry.  $5 donation and 1 drink minimum.

Saturday, Nov. 2nd at 9pm – Eat Drink Laugh – another fundraiser for Kamala’s campaign comedy show!  Produced by Paul Hallasy.  Ticket sales for this show go to Act Blue.  Pangea, 178 2nd Avenue, NYC.

    Much love to CGG-M ❤❤❤

There’s a change in the line-up for my June 14th show at The Artist on City Island.  Joe Fulton had an accident that prevents him from being in the show.  We are fortunate to have the hilarious comedian and actor, Bob Greenberg!  I hope to have Joe Fulton in a future show as he had me cracking up when I saw him perform.

The Artist is located at 249 City Island Avenue, City Island, the Bronx, NY.  #6 train to Pelham Bay Park and then the #29 bus to City Island.  The updated line-up:

    Tom Brennan

    Bob Greenberg

    Paul Hallasy

     and me, of course ...

I was heading out tonight getting up my courage to ask some stores for credit ‘til Monday.  I walked in the street near the parked cars.  I looked down to avoid dog poop and to avoid falling.  I saw a $20 bill!  I bent down to pick it up, and it was indeed a $20 bill.  I thanked God/dess and all who might be looking out for me from Heaven.  Those are some special moments.

Several poems of mine have been accepted for an anthology.  That’s a real pick-me-up.

I’m going to be in the latest production of A Sketch of New York.  was in their show several years ago (before the pandemic) and had a great time.  This is their “Pride” show and will be performed on 6/21, 22, and 23.  Details to come.  I told them I have searched for my inner lesbian but didn’t find her.  I’m sexually attracted to men though I find them difficult in general.  However, I think I’m accepted in the “Pride” show as an ally.  It’s always a good show.  Hope you’ll want to attend.

Rehearsals begin on Monday 6/3.  I think in many ways, this will be good for me.  I need some structure in my life.

    Love always to CGG-M ❤❤❤

  5. Comics Doing Poetry, etc.

    Tuesday, April 16, 2024

The poetry reading last Sunday lifted my spirits.  It was a small-ish turnout, but high in quality.  Plus I got to see and hear the work of my friend, Mindy Levokove.  Michael Graves curates this part of the Phoenix Series, and he was so encouraging to me.  I appreciate him very much.

The weather was delightful.  But still I was late.  My #4 train stop was being bypassed by downtown trains due to track work.  I had to take the train uptown to go downtown.  Then, at 42nd, I had to switch to the #6.  I have seen too much local news and find myself afraid of being in the subway.  So I had anxiety the whole way down about that and being late.

But the atmosphere felt so good, the people so accepting.  They appreciated my poetry and verbalized it.  It’s a nourishing feeling, different than other kinds of nourishment.

The Monday before, I spent the eclipse with my two closest friends.  We went to the Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn and observed the eclipse from there with our special glasses.  Mainly, I loved the three of us being together.

Tuesday, 4/16, was my best friend’s birthday.  He and I got together for the evening portion of his birthday.  Went out for Indian food (he treated), and we hung out talking.  I had a zero-budget situation, so I made him a very personal card that only ‘besties’ could do.  It caused a LOTTA laughter.  He appreciated that very much.  On zero budget, it was a goodie.  But it will have to go in a hidden file.

This Saturday, 4/20, I will be part of a reading at the Thompkins Square Library, 331 East 10th Street, NYC.  Evie Ivy put together an anthology of poems during COVID and is curating this reading and selling copies of the anthology.  It’s at 1:00pm and is FREE.  If this appeals to you, come on over.

If you need a unique gift for a male or female who this applies to:

please let me know.  My email is mindyinthebronx@gmail.com.  They are Hanes, size XL.

  6. Updates and Happenings

    Monday, May 1, 2023

The “Listen to Your Mother” show was a very good experience.  One of my favorite humans attended the afternoon show.  I did not know that she had been there until the next day when she emailed me.  Thanks so much, Jaye. The hardest part for me was saying goodbye to the cast.  They came from all over the United States and Canada.  We all appreciated each other so much.  Not only our stories, but our spirits.

For those of you in NYC on May 5th, 7pm, I will be sharing my poetry at “Dance of the Word” – an event by Evie Ivy that includes poetry, prose, music, and belly dancing.  Plus there will be wine and light fare.  A beautiful way to spend a Friday evening.  353 W. 48 Street, 2nd floor, Studio 3, NYC. ($15)

These short videos have lifted my spirits recently and I hope they do it for you, too:

After being told not to ...

    Men dancing

If no one taught hate ...

And on Tuesday, May 16th at 6pm, the “Prosettas,” of which I am a part, will be giving a prose reading at the Jefferson Market Library, 425 6th Ave, New York, NY 10011.  Powerful short prose pieces by a diverse group of voices.  FREE.

I’d LOVE you to mark your calendars for June 2nd, 8pm, to get your behinds to my comedy show at The Artist on City Island.  It’s the most reasonably priced comedy show in NYC.  ($15 cover; NO minimum; lots of laughter.)  Details to come.

        Thank you for reading.
