My creative writing class is going very well.  I’m not as relaxed as I had been when I taught for many years in an adult ed program where students needed to get their basic education.  This is creative writing, and I’m working on the curriculum as we go along.  Every term’s class will be somewhat different because students want different things and I am offering different things.  This is a ten-week contract, but if there’s interest, it will be offered again in the new year.  Some of the students are already quite impressive writers.  Some are new at this.  They motivate me.  Sometimes I respond to the writing prompt along with them.  We are having a good time.

For me, my writing journey began with diary entries, autobiographical writings, and poetry.  That practice, along with talking with trusted friends, has allowed me to find my funny.  My comedy is based on parts of life that are not actually funny.  Thankfully, I was able to reach the funny.  Turning pain into art is probably the best thing we can do with it.
