  1. It's Just a Matter of Days ...

    Tuesday, September 10, 2019

This Friday, people!  Going to be a blast!  Make a day of it.  Visit City
Island, a small boating community in the Bronx, visit the many quaint shops, enjoy some seafood (if you like seafood), and then get over to the The Artist (formerly the Starving Artists Café) for a fantastic comedy show.  Just ten bucks admission, no minimum (though they do sell light fare, beverages, and yummy desserts), and a jar will be passed around for contributions for the performers.  We will earn every dollar.

249 City Island Avenue.  If you are taking public transportation, you
ultimately have to get the BX29 Bus.  You can take the #6 train to Pelham Bay Park, and catch the bus there.  It’s worth the trip.

Those of you who already told me you will be there, a big hug to you.
appreciate your support, and I guarantee mucho laughter.

    big love to CGG-M

  3. End-of-Summer Comedy Show! at The Artist (formerly the Starving Artists Café) 249 City Island Avenue, City Island will be rockin’ on Friday, September 13, 2019 .  Arrive at 7:45 for seating and settling in.  Showtime 8pm.  Ten bucks admission.  No minimum though you may be tempted to try a delightful dessert.  A jar is passed around later to show your appreciation for the comics.  And what a wonderful line-up we have!

Mark Larsen is a writer, poet, comic, and a Yankees fan.  Mark has
performed at Broadway Comedy Club, New York Comedy Club, Greenwich Village Comedy Club, and will be bringing his funny to City Island for this show.  https://www.facebook.com/mark.larsen.9028

Lisa Harmon has been causing laughter in all boroughs of NYC and beyond.  She’s performed at all the major NYC clubs, at the 17th Annual BAAD!
Ass Women Festival (Bronx, NY), the Third Annual Ladies Laugh Comedy Festival (Madison, WI), the She Makes Me Laugh Femme Fest (NYC), and has a weekly show at Phoenix Bar in the East Village (NYC).  More at her website:  www.lisaharmon.net

Joanna Briley, known to some as Miss Swipe, is the friendliest, and very
likely the funniest, token booth clerk.  Joanna has performed at Gotham Comedy Club, Caroline’s on Broadway, Stand-Up New York, and many other clubs.  Now she produces her own show:  Laff Tracks Comedy Showcase which is monthly.  She wrote, produced, and performed, “Swipe This: My Life in Transit!” which received great reviews.  Always providing opportunities for others, she co-founded the Black Women in Comedy Festival.  https://www.facebook.com/joanna.briley

Melissa Diaz is a comic, writer, and actress from the Bronx.  As a
youngster, Melissa made up stories and plays for her friends and family, which were supposed to be very serious, extremely epic tragedies that, instead, made everyone crack up.  Now she talks about overcoming the patriarchy while patrons drink beer and laugh in her face.   Melissa co-produces two comedy shows:  Bunga’s Den every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, and a monthly comedy/variety showcase at New York Comedy Club every second Friday of the month.  http://www.melissadiazcomedy.com/

Curated and hosted by Mindy Matijasevic, comic, actress, writer, human
being, woman, mom, ex-wife, and originator of the Divorced Divas of
Comedy   https://www.facebook.com/threedivorceddivas/ .   Her comedy was aired on WBAI-FM’s feminist radio show “Joy of Resistance,” and she has performed at clubs, cafes, and special events.  Mindy regularly blogs at https://getyourpoemon.wordpress.com/   and at  www.SheSoFunny.org.

Before the summer officially ends, stroll along the quaint City Island,
enjoy the restaurants, and get your laughs at the End-of-Summer Comedy Show!  at The Artist.

  4. Debates and Updates

    Saturday, June 29, 2019

One of the things that struck me on both debate nights was who on stage had been a soldier in the armed forces.  On night one, it was a woman.  On night two, it was gay man.  Both of these groups were not allowed to fight for their country in the armed forces for so long and is still an issue for people.  I hope it is an eye-opener.  A country turning away its people who want to serve is self-defeating.

Like with any other ism, we all lose out.

The sickness I had is still with me.  No fever, but so much coughing and
congestion.  My sleep schedule is topsy turvy.  I’m concerned because I have early plans on Sunday with a friend who I miss.  I don’t want to fuck it up.

The Mob Mentality show I was cast in is still on hold.  L  When it resumes, I think I’m going to enjoy the experience a lot.  Really looking forward to it.

In the meantime, our Pussy Grabber in Chief thinks Megan Rapinoe’s
protest during the anthem is "inappropriate."  I think grabbing ladies by their pussy is beyond inappropriate.  But who’s asking me?

The humidity is so high today.  The sweat from under my breasts on my t-
shirt looks like I’m leaking milk.

July 14, 2019 -- I’ll be performing comedy at the Jazz on the Park
Hostel, 36 West 106th St.  8:30pm  FREE!  BYOB if you want (and probably a cup too).

September 13, 2019 – Comedy show at The Starving Artists Café (now
The Artist) 8pm.  $10 to enter.  Jar passed around later for the comics.
This is a show I’m booking and can guarantee a good time.  249 City Island
Avenue, City Island (the Bronx), New York.  Line-up:  Lisa Harmon!  Mark Larsen!  Melissa Diaz!  Joanna Briley!  I will host.  Laughter is guaranteed.

The weather should still be pleasant, and everyone should visit City Island especially if they live in NYC.  It’s a lovely experience.  Come early, walk around, and explore.  Then get your butt to The Artist before 8pm and laugh with us!

    love to CGG-M

  5. I'm "A Mobster's Wife"

    Tuesday, May 14, 2019

Hey people.  The series I’m cast in shoots a scene I’m in next week.  Exciting!  Then another scene in June that I’m in.  I play a mobster’s wife.  LOL.  It’s funny to me because I don’t want to be anyone’s wife in real life, never mind a mobster’s.  My ex was problematic enough.  I like being my own wife.  She’s great.  Not in the housework department, but that’s not the most important thing.

This Friday, I am going to be working on a sizzle reel that began last
summer.  We thought we were done shooting, but more is needed.  I’m glad we are going to see this to completion.  I’m dying to see the footage and use it in a reel.  I cried on camera when we shot last summer.  The scene was with my angry “son” and it echoed much of real life, so it was easy to cry.  It actually would have been harder not to cry.  I received a lot of praise for my acting, but I felt compelled to tell them I was actually reacting.  The director told me that was what good acting is.

I admit I haven’t been on the comedy stage in a while.  I also haven’t
written new material in quite a while.  I have to work on that.

Lots of challenges in my life.  Trying to just blog about the positive.  But
things are not just hunky dory.  I’m grateful for many things.  But I have many challenges.

To all those who are feeling depressed, limit how much news you watch.
Put on a game show or a comedy or turn off the tv.  It’s toxic to have a narcissist in the White House supposedly leading the country.  I know this on many levels.  Seriously.

For those of you who like to plan ahead, mark your calendars for
September 13th.  I’m putting together a comedy show on City Island.  It’s a lovely area of the Bronx – a fishing community.

I would love to see you there.  Details to come.  Laughter absolutely
    guaranteed.

    With appreciation, Mindy

    Love to CGG-M

  6. Bringin' It To The Bronx!

    Tuesday, January 5, 2016

I am happy to announce that there will be a Divorced Divas of Comedy show on Friday, January 22, 2016, 8pm at the Starving Artists Café on City Island, 249 City Island Ave. (bet. Schofield and Carroll Sts.) Bronx, NY 10464  718-885-3779.

The place is run by lovely people, Elliot and Monica Glick, and it’s a favorite place of many Bronxites and others.

It is not a theatre or a comedy club. It is a place on City Island that normally has live music, a monthly open mic for poets, prose writers, comics, instrumentalists, singers, and they also have special events. It is a gallery where the work on display is for viewing and purchasing. Their food is scrumptious. It is a place where one can get guitar lessons, and sometimes jewelry making classes are offered.

The Divorced Divas of Comedy are thrilled to be performing at the Starving Artists Café. Though the place does not sell alcohol, they welcome you to bring your wine, beer, whatever. They graciously serve up a corkscrew, glasses, and ice. Their food is wonderful (did I mention that?). Their waitresses are hardworking and lovely too.

City Island was/is a boating community and a tourist spot in the Bronx. Mainly busy in the summer months, you can find parking rather easily now.

    I proudly present our line-up for January 22, 2016.

Join us for laughter. It would just make me feel so good to see you there.

  7. The Spirit of Christmas Inappropriate

    Tuesday, December 15, 2015

I had been asked to do a few minutes of comedy at a holiday show on City Island. I responded, “I’d love to!”

Then during the following days, I worried because nothing I do fits between Jingle Bells and Holy Night.  I thought I should rewrite the lyrics of a holiday song, but I didn’t. I also didn’t think it would solve the problem. I don’t tend to write G-rated comedy material. I worried until the day before the show when I was talking with a couple of co-workers about it. I shared my worry that I’d be inappropriate in the show. I also shared that the people who asked me to participate know my type of material. One of the women said something to the effect of “So, you can be the inappropriate portion of the evening.” And suddenly I felt my shoulders relax. Self-acceptance is so wonderful.

“Oh I like that. Embracing it. I’m the spirit of Christmas Inappropriate.” They laughed. I knew I could do this.

My best friend went with me, drove, and taped me. When at the last minute, I had needed something printed out (no working printer at home), he printed it out for me and provided the batteries the camera needed. I am so grateful. On our way to City Island, we cracked each other up so much, and I said to him, “We are definitely funnier than what’s in my set.” And as usual, we agreed that we have years and years of history, loads of reference points, and it is always very personal.

The whole evening turned out to be much fun – the patrons, the staff and owners, the performers, the sing-along at the end with instruments for everyone. For me, the company and support of my buddy is very happifying.  Everything after that is a delightful extra.
